Networks and Communication

Study: Texting while walking affects your balance

Asynchronous and Synchronous are both used to communicate. Emailing is used to send a message electronically. Texting is used to text someone using a cell phone and is  faster then having to call if you are busy. For example, you are in class and unable to talk, so a person could decide to text "in class can't talk". Rather then leaving the class and distracting others. Synchronous such as Skype can be used to communicate using video chat, chatting with people long distance without being charged. Another one is IM which is similar to Skype.  I think Asynchronous is when a person is not able to see the other person whom they are chatting with, but Synchronous a person is able to see the other person. The article I read was "Texting while walking affects your balance" I learned texting while walking can be very dangerous. In the article it stated, "people who type or read on their phones while walking are less likely to look at their surroundings, keep their balance or walk in a straight line."  I seen a woman in the video walk into a sink hole, and another woman whom walked into a water fountain. .

  1. I like how you use the example of "In class can't talk" but you use texting to not break the rule.

  2. I read the same article you read as well! Isn't that crazy how that one lady fell into a pothole! I find it pretty funny and at the same time sad how much we get into our phones that we stop paying attention what's happening around us and causes us to make stupid acts.

  3. Good explanation of asynchronous and synchronous communication. Not only texting while walking is dangerous, texting while doing other things could be very dangerous too. But I don't understand why people still doing it. If they're texting, they should stop doing other things before they finish texting.

  5. I can't tell you how many times i've been walking down the street in the city and had people literally walk into me, look up for a second, then go back to texting. People look like drones sometimes, just wondering about not knowing whats happening around them. It's fun to watch sometimes...

  6. Wrong definition of synchronous and asynchronous. Nothing to do with face-to-face, but rather if it's real-time (synchronous - im, skype, etc) or not real-time (asynchronous - email, text, etc.)
